?? ?? New beginnings, we all make new beginnings, especially this time of year.It might be a new beginning to take better care of our health or our money or our relationships. It might mean finally getting around to doing something we’ve always dreamed about. Midlife though, before thinking about new beginnings, it’s good to first remember our old beginnings. Many people began their life in the church with baptism, Sunday school and BB involvement, which are important beginnings in a life of faith. But, somewhere along the way life got a bit more complicated, and those first beginnings start to feel a bit distant or even childish. We set out on our own and forgot about those early beginnings. Some people are quite happy doing that, and that’s ok, but when life does get a bit more complicated, or we encounter some knock-backs, or we feel like we’re just drifting along, it’s a good time to rethink those early beginnings. What was it in those early years that was worthy of your commitment? Was it just child’s play or was there maybe something more to it?If you’re thinking about a new beginning this year, take a moment first to think about your old beginning, your first beginning. Ask God to help you see what was really important and deeply good…and then begin again.By the Reverend John Carswell of Cadzow Parish Church
