Fat jibe from workmate made me lose weight

-

The wife of a former world snooker champ says she has got her “mojo” back after shedding stones in weight.

Elaine Dott, who is married to professional player Graeme, has changed her lifestyle to shed the pounds and become a “yummy mummy”.

And the Larkhall nurse says it was a colleague’s fat jibe that gave her the determination to lose the weight.

She explained: “My colleague embarrassed me in front of my whole team and said out loud `your uniform is so tight Elaine’.

“At this point, I knew it was time to do something about my weight.

“I wanted to lose weight as I felt so unhealthy and had no selfconfidence and very low self-esteem. This was when I really knew I was overweight.”

Elaine has been a nurse for over 20 years and says she felt like a hypocrite educating patients on healthy lifestyles, when in fact in fact her own BMI was morbidly obese.

The 37-year-old said: “I’m a school immunisation nurse and wanted to set a good example to all the children I deal with on a daily basis, so I had to practise what I preached. And also, being a busy mum of two, I wanted them to grow up in a positive healthy environment.

“I had already failed in my New Year’s resolution and it took me till March to take the plunge and walk into a WW (formerly Weight Watchers) workshop in Larkhall.

“My wellness coach Jackie Oshea instantly made me feel welcome, inspired and motivated, and the plan was so easy to follow. I was able to plan and prepare and write down everything that passed my mouth.

“I also decided to invest in a Fitbit to enable me to chart my activity and compete in my daily 10,000 steps which is now roughly 13,000 to 14,000 a day.

“Attending my weekly workshop and being involved in a group every week was the support that I needed.”

Elaine’s starting weight was 13st 7lbs and now she weighs just 10st 11lbs – and is 1.5lbs off her goal.

She added: “My husband is a professional snooker player who travels the world, and when I get the chance, I go with him, but so does my staple dried foods, my Fitbit and trainers for walking.

“I have two beautiful children and a dog that keep me active. Now I can help and encourage my patients and colleagues to gain a healthier lifestyle and exercise choices.

“I can honestly say that I have never felt hungry at all. I still have my Friday takeaway and if I was going out, I could still drink alcohol. I have changed my lifestyle completely.

“It has given me my mojo back. I used to be embarrassed undressing in front of my husband, but not any longer. I can now go shopping and not have to buy black, stretchy clothes. I can now be a yummy mummy and my husband has commented several times that I have a glow on my wee face that I had lost.

“My journey has been totally mind-blowing, as I have only gained half-apound twice and always went to workshop even if I felt I had maybe gained. I took the hit and attended.

“In the long run, the colleague that commented on my weight gave me the determination to get to goal weight.

“I am one-and-a-half pounds away and I am buzzing!”
