It’s a family affair when I step onto the stage
As fans of Gary will know, the comedian gleans a lot of material from his marriage and family life.
And the show at Hamilton Town House is set to be no different.
He said :“with the gig falling the weekend before Valentine’s Day, everyone will think I’ve planned to speak about our relationship on purpose, but I haven’t, I just do it all the time!
“Ashley and I have been married for five years – I proposed on our tenth date.
“We met on POF, and she was the only woman I met that I thought actually looked better in real-life than in her profile photos.
“On our first date, I thought, ‘we are going to get married’.
“We have five children between us, two together, and our blended family just works.
“Ashley knows how much she and our family appear in my material, she’s at every show and couldn’t be more supportive.”
Gary’s Facebook live videos often feature Ashley, and their experience of being parents.
Gary continued: “we’re attending relationship counselling just now, and I make no secret of it. Marriage is hard and you’ve got to work at it.
“We sometimes struggle to get quality time out together and as a family, as especially in Glasgow, I’m getting stopped more and more for autographs and selfies.
“But engaging with fans and being so approachable and open on social media has got me where I am today, it’s just become a part of life. And I love that relationship with the public and sharing snippets of our life, it’s relatable.
“There’s nothing better at a show than looking out from the stage and seeing couples nudge each other like ‘that’s you’, and ‘you do that as well’.”
