Former Academy pupil raises profile of Holocaust

-

A former Larkhall Academy pupil is raising cash for the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) by walking 23 miles in the Glasgow Kiltwalk in April.

Jenna Lochrie is an ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust.

Studying history at Stirling University, Jenna feels it is important to highlight the work of the HET. She said:“i am so inspired by the work of HET after taking part in their Lessons From Auschwitz project back in 2017 when I was a pupil at Larkhall Academy.

“Their aim is to educate as many people about the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance.

“It is important now, more than ever, to defend the truth and tackle prejudice and discrimination whenever we see it in our society.

“In 2019, we still face anti-semitism and it is growing more insidious. Holocaust education is one of the biggest tools we have to fight bigotry today. We forget how small beginnings lead to truly terrible endings. They happened because hate went unchecked and no one said‘stop’. We are the generation for change, and must tackle discrimination and prejudice whenever we see it occur in our schools and communities.

“We have to do all we can to carry these stories on until the next generation can take over.

“The ambassador community must continue to be witnesses to the truth of the Holocaust. We have seen it with our own eyes. We have heard it with our own ears. We know this happened – and it could happen again if we do not learn from it. We must be their witnesses and share their stories, because our work is far from done. We will not be silent. Please support us.”
