Hamilton Accies chairman Allan Maitland wielded the axe on manager Martin Canning and coach Jason Scotland, telling fans it was time for change.

Canning left by mutual consent on Tuesday having been manager for almost four years.

Assistant Guillaume Beuzelin and academy head George Cairns will be in charge for the crucial clash at home to Dundee on Saturday as Maitland sifts through applications to replace Canning.

It’s likely that ‘Beuzy’ will be assistant to the next coach.

Maitland (below) said a tough decision but the time was right. He said: “We need a fresh emphasis, but you’ve got to remember that we’re thirdbottom of the it was

hour, so there are plenty of people. “I just need to sift through them and wait and see how that goes.

“Hamilton Accies are a Premiership club, we’re here on merit and we would like to stay in the league. I would imagine it’s an attractive proposition for a lot of people.

“I can’t put a time limit on it but I would like to have somebody in place for the St Johnstone game next Wednesday. I would like to have somebody in place for Saturday if it’s possible, but I think the reality is that I will have to go through the applications and interview people and make a Defending champion Kirsty Gilmour is top seed in women’s singles at the Yonex Scottish National Championships in Perth this weekend.

The competition at Bell’s Sports Centre will be Gilmour’s first competitive outing on home soil since retaining her women’s singles crown at the Scottish Open in November, and she starts as favourite to lift her eighth national singles title in a row.

That would be a record, overtaking the seven titles in as many years won by Muriel Ferguson, and taking her one behind Anne Gibson, with nine in 10 years. If all goes according to seeding, Gilmour will face upand-coming star Rachel Sugden in the final.

Motherwell’s Alex Dunn and Adam Hall from Mauchline are favourites to retain their men’s doubles title, but are likely to face Christopher and Matthew Grimley in the final.

Hamilton’s Jack Macgregor and Ciar Pringle from Giffnock are joint third/fourth seeds.

Dunn and Eleanor O’donnell are second seeds in mixed doubles, behind Hall and Julie Macpherson of Edinburgh.
