Drive-thru plans are brewing up
A coffee giant looks set to open up a drive-thru in Blantyre.
There are plans for Costa to move into the Clydeview Shopping Centre.
A planning application was submitted last week to South Lanarkshire Council for consideration.
The new business would be located on the vacant ground on Glasgow Road, next to the existing four-pump Asda garage and would also face onto Blantyre Leisure Centre.
The cafe would also have an estimated 28 car parking spaces.
Costa currently have a drivethru at Bothwell services on the M74.
In November 2017, Asda lodged a planning application for the multi-million pound redevelopment of their Blantyre store.
A proposal was submitted to South Lanarkshire Council for the Clydeview Shopping Centre premises and related commercial units on Glasgow Road.
The firm say that the redevelopment will “serve to deliver much-needed improvements” to the site.
Alan Jones, senior communications manager for Asda, said: “Our proposals represent a multi-million pound investment into Blantyre and will help enhance the vitality and viability of the centre.”
Asda Stores Limited’s application concerned a firstphase of improvement works in accordance with a masterplan that had been prepared for the entire site.
The proposals included external improvements to the store and the retained western parade of units, as well as the demolition of the eastern parade of units and the erection of new units for a mix of shops, service and professional offices, plus food and drink or hot food shops.
The existing petrol filling station will be changed and their will be an introduction of a small sales kiosk.
Asda say they brought the development proposals forward following a “comprehensive assessment of the trading environment” at Blantyre, including the lack of demand for the vacant shop units.
The existing Asda store will be improved along with the retained western parade of units fronting Glasgow Road.
