An elderly woman has been robbed in Larkhall in what police described as a “frightening and violent attack”.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses following the incident on Friday, February 15.

At around 8.10pm that day, the 73-year-old woman was walking on Machan Road at Quarry Road, Larkhall, when she was approached from behind and forced to the ground.

She was assaulted and the following items were stolen from her: a black Barbour jacket, items of jewellery including her wedding and engagement rings, a dress ring and also a gold coloured watch with expanding strap and a gold face.

Thieves also stole from her a black Kipling leather handbag, which included a Kipling purse with a threefigure sum of cash.

Detective Constable Andrew Sinclair from Cambuslang Police Office said: “This was an extremely frightening and violent attack which left an elderly woman injured, and without some of her most sentimental possessions.

“Although we have no description of those responsible at this time, we believe there were two people involved.

“We are working to establish more information on their identity as they must be caught as soon as possible for this sickening crime.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area and viewing a large amount of CCTV footage to gather more information.

“There are additional patrols in the area to provide public reassurance, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to these officers.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the robbery who either witnessed this attack, or who witnesses anyone acting suspiciously to come forward as soon as possible.

“I would also like to hear from anyone with any information on the items that were stolen or who have any dash cam footage from the area around the time of this incident.”

Anyone with any information should contact Cambuslang Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 4918 of 16th February 2019. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
