Charity band are taking huge steps

-

Blantyre charity band Tyre Walk N Rollers are taking a big stride – by signing up for this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk event.

The five-piece act have started their training regime ahead of the 26-mile trek in aid of the Haven Centre on April 28.

Band members John Tierney, Alan Mcdonald, Kenny Mcinally, Joe Gallacher of rock band Toy Tin Soldier and actor Scott Fletcher of River City fame are all taking part in the challenge and hope to raise over £1000 for the Blantyre charity who support people and their families dealing with life-limiting illnesses.

John, who will also be joined by eight further friends for the walk, explained: “We’ve been long-time supporters of the Haven Centre and decided to put our best foot forward and get stuck in again this year – this time by hopefully completing the gruelling Glasgow Kiltwalk.

“The Haven is a charity that supports people suffering from life-limiting illnesses like cancer, motor neurone disease and so on.

“They also provide support services for the families of sufferers. It really is an amazing place. How do I know? I’ve used their services.

“Please, if you are able, donate whatever you can to support us. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.”

Previously the five musically-gifted men put their talent to good use and recorded a charity single in aid of the Haven Centre. They also played a sell-out gig at the Blantyre Miners’ Welfare Club, with all proceeds again being donated to their home town charity.

The friends were also responsible for a huge antiknife crime march through the town back in 2011, following the murder of Blantyre teenager Raemonn Gormley.

The marchers – friends, family, politicians, antiknife campaigners and many residents shocked by Reamonn’s death – marched through the town, united against knife crime and violence in the area.

John added: “We’re just five guys who love Blantyre and love to get involved with the goings-on in our town.

“Our training has started, and has already proved challenging with the recent weather conditions, but I’m sure come April the sun will be shining and we’ll smash the walk no trouble.”
