Time to give yourself a health spring MOT
As spring approaches, it could be the time of year that you think about getting out and about more.
There’s a growing focus on preventative health right now – which basically means taking steps to prevent things becoming a problem, rather than waiting until disaster strikes before takin g action.
Just as we send our cars for MOTS, it makes sense to consider booking yourself in for a thorough health check every once in a while.
After all, when things go wrong with our bodies, it’s not as simple as calling the garage and putting in an order for replacement parts. But, what are the options?
And in this day and age, we all want to remain living independently and healthy for as long as we can - this encompasses everything from our mental and emotional well being to physical challenges we may face and ways to help be independent and able to live on our own.
Most of us have had a general check-up when registering at a new GP surgery.
But the NHS operates a more thorough Health Check programme too, offered every five years to people aged 40-74 who have not already been diagnosed with any cardiovascular disease.
Its main purpose is to monitor individuals’ risk levels for developing stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes and dementia – some of which are very common but preventable major conditions in the UK within those age groups – and spot early signs so they can be tackled quickly.
The Health Check lasts around 2030 minutes and could be a lifesaver for you.
Independent living is something a that is important for many people.
And one way of staying mobile is to invest in a mobility scooter.
These are great ways of allowing you to get out and about and keep your social life for as long as possible.
There are also living aids that can also help you stay in your own home for as long as possible.
Looking after your oral health is important too.
Being picture perfect has become an important part of our culture and the rise in cosmetic dental treatments reflects this.
Gone are the days of having to put up with poor teeth, instead there are ways of having the perfect smile.
Emotional well being is important too – a time to de-stress, deal with anxiety and make plans for the summer ahead.
Why not focus on your mental health and physical well being?
So this spring why not take time and give yourself a health MOT.
