Regeneration plans for town centre
Plans to regenerate Larkhall town centre were discussed at a meeting earlier this month.
On Monday, February 4, Christina Mckelvie, MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, organised a meeting for Larkhall Town Plan members with the CEO of Scotland’s Towns Partnership, Phil Prentice, regarding plans to regenerate the area.
The meeting was held in the Larkhall Lighthouse, where a wide range of ongoing projects and developments and plans to improve the area were discussed, with the example of the Larkhall Growers being highlighted.
It was agreed that the best way to move forward was to carry out a survey of the area and find out what residents themselves wanted to see.
Christina said: “I was absolutely delighted to welcome Phil Prentice along to the meeting to meet some of our fantastic local activists.
“It was fitting that the meeting was held in the Lighthouse, a great example of the work done by the local community which continues to improve Larkhall.
“I am really excited to see what comes out of the survey, which will begin being distributed around the area in the next couple of months by the tremendous Larkhall Town Plan team.”
Nancy Barr of the Larkhall Town Plan said: “The advice from the meeting was really helpful in confirming we’re on the right track. Our plan to ensure the local community have the key say in how things go forward, rather than having changes handed down, has worked when it was tried in other places in Scotland.”
