Tea-sy does it for Coalyard students
Certificates were presented to learners from the Coalyard project, which is based at the Tearoom in Larkhall.
The students who attend the Faculty of Supported Learning celebrated completing their studies at New College Lanarkshire.
And the ‘Celebration of Achievement’ ceremonies took place over three days at the college’s Motherwell campus.
Friends, family and supporters joined staff in applauding the students’ accomplishments and acknowledging the different routes they are taking to achieve their potential.
At the first ceremony, students who completed two employability-focused courses were honoured.
Lecturer Lucie Armstrong presented certificates of achievement to 11 students from the Coalyard project, a two-year course in which students learn hospitality sector skills working at the Coalyard Tearoom.
Nicola Mulholland, assistant head of faculty, said: “All of our students have worked extremely hard for the last year or two years and they’ve had the opportunity to obtain qualifications and skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.
“Many of them have gained practical workplace experience that is invaluable in this current climate.
“All our learners give us so much – they contribute so much to our lives and to our faculty; they will be missed greatly by our staff. I’d also like to thank our staff for their dedication and commitment that goes far above and beyond what’s expected of them.”
The college offers a number of programmes for students with additional support needs, which build confidence, independence and employability.
