Police appeal after break-ins at golf club

- with sergeantjon Mcleish

Happy Halloween! I hope it has been a safe and enjoyable time for you all.

In what is traditionally a busy time for the emergency services, we continue to try and deliver the same service that we would if it were not a time of high demand.

And in trying to provide this same service, some officers will be temporarily taken from other departments and tasked with attending public events, such as large fireworks events or football matches, allowing local officers to carry on with their usual role.

With that in mind, I thought this article was an opportunity to demonstrate their ‘usual’ role. In reviewing incidents for our area of South Lanarkshire, I continue to be impressed by the variety of matters officers deal with and how motivated they are in continuing to try to keep people safe, and in trying to continue being focused on the divisional priorities of drugs, housebreakings, public protection and violence.

There have been noteworthy successes in the last few days, with officers making large drug seizures across the division, ensuring we continue to disrupt organised crime, which causes such harm to our society.

Whilst such stories often make the headlines, the lesser known work often goes unremarked upon.

Several missing people have been found by officers in the last seven days, some enquiries being resource-intensive and complex.

Officers have also attended the scenes of serious and violent incidents, put themselves in harm’s way to protect injured people, and made arrests. Over the same time period, uniformed officers and teams of plain clothes officers have undertaken to investigate and analyse crimes of dishonesty, again carrying out timeous investigations, have made arrests and tried to get property back for those who had items taken from them.

Beyond even these priorities, officers have dealt with so many more types of incidents – road accidents, disturbances and domestic incidents, to name but a few. Whilst the officers won’t get everything right all the time, they strive to do their best for the communities they serve, knowing that the variety of tasks they undertake is one of the reasons why many joined the service.

Officers had cause to attend a potentially-violent incident on October 25, where a report was made of a person being in alleged possession of four knives in Woodlands Crescent, Bothwell. On arrival the conduct of two persons was such that they were arrested and a report sent to the procurator fiscal.

Finally, there have been two breakins within the last week at Larkhall Golf Club, which has had an impact on the service that the club are trying to provide. I would appeal to anyone who has any information about who carried out these crimes, and about where the stolen property is, to get in touch with Sgt Scanlan at Larkhall Police Office.

If you have any information relating to the above, or that you feel should be reported to police, then please call 101.
