Starbucks back our festive toy appeal

-

Something’s brewing this Christmas – after Hamilton’s Starbucks branch once again threw their weight behind our annual toy appeal.

As well as making a mammoth donation of gift vouchers for the county’s teenagers, the coffee franchise is also a drop-off point for toys and gifts.

And to top it all off, they will also kindly raffle off a basket full of Starbucks goodies this Christmas, with proceeds then being donated to the Advertiser’s Toy Appeal.

Advertiser reporter Leona Greenan, who co-ordinates the appeal, said: “We are delighted to once again have the support of our friends at the OCOSTAR group, who have Starbucks in Hamilton.

“For the last three years they have been fully behind the toy appeal, and we are so pleased that they are going to be an extra drop-off point for the people of Lanarkshire to hand in their donations.

“With your help, we can all really make this a Christmas to remember for the children that the appeal supports.”

Over the coming weeks, we will also take mammoth deliveries of toys from a host of Lanarkshire companies, churches and organisations who have been in touch to pledge their support.

These donations will help make up hundreds of parcels for those less fortunate in the South Lanarkshire area.

Anyone who would like to support the appeal can do so by purchasing a brand new gift or toy for a child aged between newborn up to 18.

The goodies will then be boxed up by age range and gender and collected by South Lanarkshire Council’s social workers in time for collection by their team mid-december.

They will then distribute the parcels to needy children across Hamilton, Blantyre, Larkhall, Bothwell, Uddingston, Lanark and Carluke.

Meanwhile, Central Scotland MSP

Monica Lennon was delighted to visit Happy Feet Nursery in Larkhall to support the Hamilton Advertiser’s Christmas Toy Appeal.

The nursery is also a drop-off point for the appeal and Ms Lennon said: “For some families, Christmas can be a time of despair as they struggle to make ends meet, but year after year, thanks to the Hamilton Advertiser Christmas Toy Appeal, generous readers and businesses help make hundreds of children smile on December 25 when they awake to a host of goodies and gifts.

“Happy Feet Nursery in Larkhall are continually supporting charities and the local community, so it is no surprise they are championing this year’s appeal.”

Anyone who would like to make a donation can do so by handing it in to Starbucks at Palace Grounds Retail Park, all day, between now and Tuesday, December 10.

You can also drop them in to The Salvation Army on Burnblea Street, Hamilton, weekdays between 10am to noon, or at the Happy Feet Nursery in Larkhall from 9am to 5pm.
