Driver treated for shock after smash at school

-

Police were called to Uddingston Grammar last week after a vehicle crashed into the side of the school.

Officers raced to the scene at 8.22am on Thursday, October 31, following reports that a trailer had smashed into the brickwork near the drop-off point.

No-one was injured and the driver was treated for shock.

The council have said they are unsure of how long repairs will take, or even how much it will cost, but the school have taken to Twitter to advise pupils and parents that the car park is still out of bounds.

They tweeted: “School operating as normal. Remember we would prefer that you did not access our car park for a time. Thanks for your support in this.”

Stewart Nicolson, head of Education at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “We would wish to reassure pupils, parents and staff that following this incident, our first priority was to focus on the safety of all of who attend Uddingtson Grammar.

“The wall has been assessed and although there has been some minor disruption to the office, no classrooms or teaching areas were damaged.

“The council has initiated repair work and an area of the car park will remain cordoned off to enable this work to be completed.

“While we appreciate this will mean some inconvenience in terms of car parking the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff is our priority.

“The school has been pro-active in keeping the community updated and we wish to express our thanks to pupils, staff and families for the patience and understanding.”

Police Scotland said no arrests made, but advice has been given to the driver of the vehicle.
