Would-be thieves target shop twice in two days

-

Police are appealing for witnesses after a Hamilton convenience store was targeted by thieves for the second time in two days.

Around 8.15pm on Monday, November 4, a man entered the Mccoll’s store on Fleming Way, threatened staff, demanding money, however he fled empty-handed.

The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins, of medium build and was wearing a blue hooded jacket, light coloured jogging bottoms and had a blue scarf covering his face.

The night before, a different man entered the shop and threatened staff with a weapon before demanding money from the till.

The man left and nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

Officers describe the suspect in the Sunday night incident as being of a heavy build with a bright coloured hoodie.

Detective Constable Stuart Burnside of Lanarkshire CID said: “Although nobody was injured during this incident and no money was taken, this is the second time this shop has been targeted in two days, and for staff to go through this again is very frightening and upsetting for them.

“Support and security advice has been provided to staff and police patrols will be increased in the area.

“Police are appealing for information that will identify those responsible. All avenues of enquiry are being pursued and there is no apparent link between both incidents at this time.

“The suspect on this occasion (Monday), ran off on Fleming Way afterwards. Please take the time to think back. Did you see this man near to the shop or in the local area?

“Anyone who has any information that can help to identify and trace him, should contact police as soon as possible.”

Those with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 3818 of Monday, 4th November, 2019. Alternatively if you wish to give information anonymously, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
