’Gow are level with Lanark

-

Lesmahagow were the only Lanarkshire team to get a game on in Mcbookie.com West League 1, drawing 2-2 at Kello Rovers.

Similarly, only Forth Wanderers were in action in League 2, winning 2-1 at St Anthony’s.

’Gow moved level with third-placed Lanark United on 29 points, but the Yowes have a game in hand and a better goal difference.

Lesmahagow had to twice fight back from a goal down to take a point from Kello.

Kello took the lead through a sixth-minute penalty, and repaid that favour with 15 minutes left when Kyle Weir was upended in the home team’s box, with Kris Jarvie converting the spot-kick.

The hosts restored their lead with a glancing header, but Lesmahagow levelled again when a Scott Schonville cross took a deflection off of a Kello defender and went in.

Boss Robert Irving was disappointed only to take a point from the game.

He said: “We played reasonably well on Saturday. We were 1-0 down after six minutes when a clumsy challenge from Darren Lygate led to a penalty to Kello.

“We equalised through Kris Jarvie with a penalty after Kyle

Weir was brought down.

“Kello went 2-1 up almost instantly, then a good Scott Schonville cross forced a defender to put through his own goal. “On the overall display, I feel that it’s two points dropped.” Forth Wanderers scored twice in eight second-half minutes to take the points from St Anthony’s.

Jonathan Branks got them off the mark in 60 minutes, with Jordan Lynch scoring what proved to be the winner, before Kamil Leszczynski pulled a goal back from a penalty in 85 minutes.

The result moves Forth three points off fourth-placed Johnstone Burgh, but their rivals have four games in hand.

Other than that, winter weather was very much the winner at the weekend, with seven games featuring Lanarkshire sides postponed.

Torrential rain caused pitches to be waterlogged across the West region.

Blantyre Vics and Shotts Bon Accord were both scheduled at home against Gartcairn and Arthurlie in West League Championship, but were left idle.

East Kilbride Thistle v Carluke Rovers, Larkhall Thistle v Lanark United, Royal Albert v Bellshill Athletic and Wishaw v Shettleston all had a watery grave in League 1.

Thorniewood’s visit to Ashfield in League 2 suffered a similar fate.
