Road ahead to cost £2.5m Cash being splashed fixing streets and pavements
Almost £2.5 million is being spent on repairing roads and pavements in the Hamilton area this year.
Figures unveiled at the Hamilton area committee on Wednesday, December 18, revealed that 35 projects are due to be completed by April 2020.
More than £2.2 million is being spent on resurfacing roads across the area, while around £230,000 is being used to fix footways. The most expensive project saw the A71 Ayr Road/cornsilloch Brae repaired for exactly £265,462.91.
At the other end of the scale, just £18,621.96 was spent fixing the footway at Ness Gardens, Larkhall.
Of the 35 projects, 31 had been completed by November when the Roads Investment Plan – Progress Report was written.
The remaining four projects are either scheduled or are already underway.
Valued at £3 billion, the roads network is the council’s biggest asset.
There are 2200km of carriageways and 1850km of footways in South Lanarkshire, while traffic levels have more than doubled since 1983. Since 2008-09, £137m has been spent improving the condition of roads across South Lanarkshire.

Condition Index. Maintaining and improving the roads network is a top priority for the council and the £11m in Steady State funding is used to maintain the condition of all the roads in a steady state.
