The Hamilton Advertiser launched a campaign to help save Hamilton Mausoleum. The iconic building urgently needed repairs which cost more than £375,000 to stop water damage that is penetratin­g the local landmark.

A Hamilton student was praised after her petition to save the Hamilton X1 route was signed by thousands – resulting in First Bus keeping the service. Rebecca Creechan sprang into action to save the route, which she uses four days a week. She created an online petition which was signed by nearly 5000 people.

A Larkhall mum-to-be was left horrified to find her new council home was rat-infested. Hazel Russell moved into her new home in Balfour Wynd with her four-year-old son Anthony and on the second night of living in the three-bedroom house, the 30-yearold, who is expecting a baby girl in April, was shocked to discover rats in her home.

Our news reporter Kirsten Mcstay visited Machanhill Primary School as part of World of Work Week. The children really enjoyed learning about her job.

A Hamilton home was lit up with Christmas lights (centre) to raise money for charity. Iain Fleming held his annual switch on in aid of the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation.

A Hamilton family were delighted to celebrate their first Christmas together in 26 years after winning a competitio­n. Annmarie Stewart won a competitio­n ran by Hamilton’s Regent Shopping Centre which would see her brother, Alan Stewart, fly back from Toronto, Canada.

The Hamilton Advertiser held yet another successful Christmas Toy Appeal, alongside our main partner, the town’s branch of The Salvation Army. The overwhelmi­ng generosity of the public and our readers meant that just over 700 needy children on South Lanarkshir­e Council’s social work lists woke up on Christmas morning to parcels galore.
