New year brings new funding for school

-

Calderside Academy in Blantyre brought in the New Year with a cash boost from a national funding programme.

It has received £6800 from the School Library Improvement Fund (SLIF), which is administered by the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) on behalf of the Scottish Government.

The SLIF is designed to support creative and innovative projects within school libraries and aims to support activities which meet key education priorities, including literacy development, information and digital learning and health and wellbeing.

The funding will support a collaborative approach to developing a flourishing reading culture at all three schools.

Pamela Tulloch, chief executive at SLIC, said:“school libraries have a vital role to play in the education journey of pupils. Research shows a well-run school library can impact positively on attainment and attitudes to learning.

“School libraries have enjoyed increased support since the introduction of the national school library strategy and we hope this continues to deliver long-lasting and sustainable benefits.”

Thirty-four school library projects across Scotland have received a combined total of £272,00 in this round of funding. A new funding round is set to open for applications tomorrow (January 10, 2020), with £170,000 available for creative projects to enhance school library provision.

The successful bids and how to apply for the next funding round are available on www.scottishlibraries.org/funding
