Jailed after headbutting ex’s mother

- COURT REPORTER

A Hamilton man has been jailed for six months after a disturbance involving his former partner and her mother.

David Russell’s behaviour left Donna Kane “visibly upset” while her mum, Ann Marie, was headbutted during the row.

Russell, of Silvertonhill Place, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at his ex-partner’s home in Kerr Crescent, Hamilton, on May 25.

He also admitted breaching bail conditions preventing him from having contact with Ms Kane.

Raeesa Ahmed, prosecuting, said the couple had been in a relationship for 14 years and had one child. They split up last October.

Russell turned up at her home and talked about getting back together.

However, the subject turned to money and he began shouting and swearing at her.

Ms Kane went to her mum’s home nearby and asked her for help to get Russell out of the house.

Russell, who was sitting on a sofa, refused to leave and during an argument he headbutted Ann Marie Kane.

Ms Ahmed told the court: “Russell eventually did leave. The police were called and officers arrived to find Donna Kane visibly upset.”

Jackson Bateman, defending, said Russell went to the house to recover various items and money.

The solicitor stated: “He recognises his behaviour was unacceptable.

“But there were also remarks made towards him that were particularly unpleasant.”

As well as being jailed, Russell was given a nonharassment order banning him from contact with his former partner and her mum for two years.
