Pupils ‘unite’ for Virtual Health Week

- LEONA GREENAN

Lockdown and rain didn’t stop the pupils of Our Lady and St Anne’s Primary from participating in a Virtual Health Week.

Pupils and parents rose to a number of challenges that were set on online learning platforms Google Classroom and Seesaw.

Youngsters took part in Mindfulness Monday and created calm family dens to relax in.

Active Schools helped provide taster sport experiences for the children through challenges posted on their Twitter page using equipment that could be found in every home, in particular toilet rolls!

And families and staff selected a half -hour slot to cycle, walk, jump or run in the Great Our Lady and St Anne’s Relay Race.

One primary six pupil said of the health week: “I loved all of the different activities and it felt like the whole school were back together again, even if it was virtual!”

Everyone worked as a team and passed the baton (virtually) to ensure the chain wasn’t broken from 9.30am until 3pm.

Pupils worked hard to plan and prepare snacks and hosted their very own sports day where every family participated in a number of fun, competitive events against each other.

A parent said: “It was so much fun for the whole family and it was also a great way to shake up the online learning, although we were all exhausted by Friday!”

Louise Parker, a teacher at the school added: “To celebrate the end of a fabulous week, pupils dressed in school colours and joined together at 2pm to perform a lockdown dance.

“Even Stan the school mascot joined in the fun!”
