A new Tony Macaroni restaurant is set to open in Hamilton this year.

The eatery will set up shop in the Palace Grounds, where 30 local jobs will be created.

The site was previously held by Frankie and Benny’s, which served the town for many years before closing last June.

And it won’t be too long before locals can dine at the popular Italian chain as the restaurant expects to open its doors in May.

The former Frankie and Benny’s has lain empty in recent months, however new signage has been spotted at the building’s entrance advertising the new Tony Macaroni restaurant.

At the doors, it reads:“tony Macaroni – opening soon”.

One of the managers of Viva Italia Group, the parent company of Tony Macaroni, said the move saw around £500,000 being spent as they prepare to open in Hamilton town centre.

The news has been welcomed by Hamilton Business Improvement District, who are pleased to see another restaurant open in Hamilton.

Hamilton BID manager Malcolm Thomasharley said:“we are delighted that Tony Macaroni has chosen Hamilton town centre to open its latest restaurant.

“The opening of this well-loved Scottish business in the town centre brings even more consumer choice in a town centre already packed with fantastic culinary options.”

The business group are encouraging Hamilton residents to continue to shop local this year after 2021 proved to be a success for local firms – where 15 new shops and restaurants opened their doors last year.

It’s the first time Tony Macaroni have launched one of their restaurants in Hamilton.

The nearest of the chain’s eateries are in Motherwell and East Kilbride.
