Support is there for victims of crime

-

Victim Support Scotland have shared with us some of the fantastic work they’ve done throughout Lanarkshire in January.

They provided 338 support sessions to Lanarkshire residents who were affected by crime.

They awarded over £1200 to victims of crime. This included the installation of security systems to help people feel safer.

They supported 21 people who’d been specifically affected by anti-social behaviour.

They helped one victim with their court proceedings. They organised for a visit beforehand, giving them an opportunity to talk through the process and feel more informed about what would happen on the day.

They have done all of this and can do more. If you’d like to find out more, visit VSS online at www.victimsupport.scot

On February 13, police were called to a disturbance at a public house in the Uddingston area.

Circumstances were passed that a male had earlier caused a disturbance within, and had later returned, refused to leave and had been in possession of a metal pole and gardening shears. A male had left prior to police arrival, however was quickly traced nearby.

A 49-year-old male has been charged with offences including possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a bladed article, and an offence under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.

Also on the same day police were called to an ongoing disturbance at an address in the Blantyre area.

A suspect was allegedly in possession of an axe which he used to smash several windows of the house while making threats to the occupiers.

The male had left prior to police arrival, however was identified and quickly traced to his home address.

On being traced the male allegedly brandished a bottle with which he attempted to assault the officers.

A 23-year-old male was arrested and charged with offences including breach of the peace, vandalism, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a bladed article, and police assault.

If you have any relevant information or matters that you feel should be reported to the police, you can do so by calling them on 101.
