Rangers legend is backing appeal

- EMMA LAWSON

Greenhall Country Cafe and Farm Shop have teamed up with a Rangers legend to raise funds for a defibrillator outside their busy premises.

Arthur Numan popped in to the premises in Blantyre to back the efforts of Andrew and Linda Smellie.

And the owners of the popular cafe and shop were delighted to get the former Ibrox hero on side with their fundraising.

They said: “The main reason we decided to try and fundraise for one was because of our location.

“We’re quite rural and out of the way.

“We have a busy cafe and we did think it was a good thing to have if something ever did happen in the area.

“We have a big housing estate next to us as well that’s just been built and if ever an emergency happened, those people would be able to use it as well.”

The cafe has become a favourite among locals for its meals and tasty cakes, as well as its lovable goats and alpacas.

Greenhall first began to collect donations in November of last year when they set up their Go Fund page and collected £350 over the festive period.

The cafe is planning to put the defibrillator on the outside wall.

Andrew also called in the help of former Rangers hero Arthur Numan, who popped by the cafe earlier this week for some lunch and to help with fundraising efforts.

Andrew told us: “He signed some bottles for us and we’re auctioning them off for the fund.

“He’s such a good guy and he came to help, always got the time for people.”

The Dutch internationalist has signed a winter edition blended Scotch, Rangers single malt Scotch, and Blood Orange and Passion Fruit gin.

Bidding can be done via the cafe’s Facebook page and will close at 4pm this Friday.

All funds raised will go towards the defibrillator.

The cafe is hoping with their fundraising attempts that they will be able to get the defibrillator in the next few weeks.

Donations for the defibrillator can be made via the cafe’s Gofund page at gofund.me/52eff57f
