Teen spirit Connor to play TRNSMT festival

- SHIRLEY BARTYNEK

A Lanarkshire schoolboy has been announced as the youngest artist on this year’s TRNSMT bill.

Connor Fyfe, from Bellshill, will make his debut at the Glasgow Green festival on Sunday, July 10.

The 15-year-old singer-songwriter, who supported The Snuts on their recent tour, is most definitely one to watch.

Connor, who will perform on the River Stage, told the Advertiser: “I was buzzin’ to go this year to see the rest of the line-up, but to be asked to play is mental man!

“It feels class and I’m ready for it!” Playing the Main Stage on the Sunday this year will be Lewis Capaldi, Wolf Alice, Sigrid, Mimi Webb, Sigala, Dylan John Thomas, and Nina Nesbitt.

Speaking to the Advertiser just last week, Connor told us how he’s recently finished his Nat 5 prelims, but at weekends takes his guitar on the road to gig at venues across the country.

Despite the pandemic, the talented teen still managed to play over 60 gigs last year, bring out new music, play at festivals all over the UK and head out on his first Scottish tour.

Connor is gearing up to play Saint Luke’s in Glasgow on Saturday, March 5.

Also flying the flag for Lanarkshire at TRNSMT will be singing sensations and chart toppers Saint Phnx.

Brothers Stevie and Alan Jukes have been named on the bill to play on the famous King Tut’s stage on Friday, July 8.

The duo, originally from Wishaw but now living in Tinto, recently hit the top spot in the charts, storming in at No.1 in the Scottish chart and entering the UK top 40 for the first time.

Now the pair are gearing up for the festival circuit this summer and can’t wait to take to the stage in Glasgow.

They said: “Oh ya beauty TRNSMT Festival here we come! We cannot wait to take to the stage at this amazing Scottish festival.”

Meanwhile, Rianne Downey will also perform over the weekend.

The 21-year-old, from Bellshill, is delighted to be listed on the River Stage on closing night, Sunday, July 10.

Rianne, who will headline her very own UK tour this year, told her 35,000 Facebook followers: “TRNSMT I’m comin for ye! See you Sunday 10th July on the River Stage.”

As well as her own tour, prior to TRNSMT Rianne will also travel to America to perform in Texas at the biggest music conference in the world – the South by South West festival (SXSW).

Iwasbuzzin’togo this year to see the rest oftheline-up,buttobe askedtoplayismental man!
