HANDY ANDY IS ON A ROLL

Accies ace is hitting form at perfect time

- ANDY MCGILVRAY

Hamilton Accies boss Stuart Taylor hopes striker Andy Winter is hitting form at the right time to take his side further up the Championship table.

And he hopes that will continue on Saturday against an Arbroath side he says they owe a victory against, even though he feels they deserve to be challenging at the top end of the table.

Winter, 20, struck his third goal in as many games in Friday’s 1-1 draw at Ayr United.

But Taylor says he’s not a new Accies hero, because he’s been in and around the first-team for years.

Taylor insists Winter is one of the best finishers at the club, and said: “I think he’s hitting form at the right time, definitely. He’s always been one we’ve known exactly what he can do.

“When I came here at first he was out a long time with injury, and it was a case of trying to get him back in, get him game-time, trying to get him built up.

“Andy has shown he’s one of the best finishers at the club. He shows that in training all the time.

“He did great getting the goal up at Inverness Caley and he has been fantastic in the last couple of games. I’m absolutely delighted with him and over the moon for him to be getting his goals.”

Having bagged last-gasp equalisers against Hamilton in the last two clashes – most notably a 2-2 draw at Gayfield in which Accies led 2-0 – Taylor says he wants to grab a win on Saturday, but expects a battle.

He said: “I feel we owe them a win. In the last two games they’ve scored last-minute equalisers, in the last two games we’ve done really well in them.

“They’re one of the teams that should be up there at the end of the season. They’ve got an incredible wealth of experience; one of their players would probably equal six or seven of ours, in terms of how many games they’ve played over their career. They have a huge amount of experience.

“They’re up there on merit, or they deserve to be, but they should be, with the squad they’ve got.”

Taylor added: “We know exactly how difficult a game it’s going to be. We know it’s going to be a real battle, but we have to go and make sure that we go and match those battling qualities, which we’ve done in the last couple of games.

“But also, can we get the ball down, go and pass it, and dominate the game, possession wise.”
