Scottish local elections are coming up and the full list of candidates who are running in South Lanarkshir­e has been revealed.

The elections will be held on Thursday, May 5, and voters can choose who they want to represent them in their wards.

For the 20 wards in South Lanarkshir­e, there will be 64 councillor­s chosen.

To vote for your chosen councillor, you will be given one white ballot paper and will vote using numbers.

You will number the candidates in order of your preference, starting with number one in the box next to the name of your first chosen candidate.

You can make as many or as few choices as you want.

South Lanarkshir­e residents must register to vote by April 18 to vote in local council elections. Eligible voters must be aged over 16.

Candidates who are running for each ward are as follows.

Ward 1 – Clydesdale West (four councillor­s to elect): Neil Barton (Scottish Greens), Poppy Corbett (Scottish Conservati­ve and Unionist), Lynsey Hamilton (Labour and Co-operative Party), Eileen Logan (Scottish Labour Party), Peter Charles Meehan (Scottish Liberal Democrats), David Shearer (Scottish National Party) and Andrew Wilson (Scottish National Party).

Ward 2 – Clydesdale North (three councillor­s to elect): Richard Lockhart (Scottish Conservati­ve and Unionist), Ronald Logan (Independen­t), Julia Marrs (Scottish National Party), Catherine Mcclymont (Scottish Labour Party) and John Scott (Independen­t).

Ward 3 – Clydesdale East (three councillor­s to elect): Alex Allison (Scottish Conservati­ve and Unionist), Ralph Barker (Scottish Labour Party), Eric Holford (Scottish Conservati­ve and Unionist), Gareth Kirk (Scottish Family Party), Ian Mcallan (Scottish National Party), John Mclatchie (Scottish National Party), Nicholas Mark Tucker (Scottish Liberal Democrats) and Claire Elizabeth Watson (Scottish Greens).
