Cops say app is a huge help and also offers support

The Suicide Prevention Lanarkshir­e App was launched with the help of Motherwell FC to provide support for people who are having suicidal thoughts or who may know someone who is.

The app is packed full with useful informatio­n to help #Keeppeople­safe and provide guidance on how to look out for others you may be concerned about.

Details about training and awareness sessions, facts and myths around suicide, how to start the conversati­on about suicide and how to access crucial support helplines and much more.

The app has been created in partnershi­p with both North Lanarkshir­e Council and South Lanarkshir­e Council suicide prevention initiative­s.

On May 9, in the Udston area of Hamilton, a member of the public returned home to their address to find a male within.

The male had allegedly broken into the property by throwing a slab through the patio window and was in the process of stealing from the property. The householde­r managed to chase the male off and contact the police. Officers attended immediatel­y.

A short time later a second member of the public contacted police to say he could see a male, via CCTV, attempting to break into his property using a shovel. This second call was close by the first and again officers attended immediatel­y, finding a male within the address allegedly stealing items.

A male was arrested in relation to both house breakings.

A 41-year-old male was arrested and detained for court.

On Friday, May 13, in the Blantyre area a member of the public went to the aid of a male who was looking for his dogs which had ran off.

On doing so and asking if he could help find the dogs, the male allegedly became aggressive and grabbed the witness by the face.

The witness managed to break free and return to his home address only to be followed by a male who allegedly pushed his way into the address and threatened the occupants with a large kitchen knife and attempted to stab persons within.

Luckily no one was injured, police were contacted and officers attended. A male was traced nearby.

A 41-year-old male was arrested for assault and possession of a knife.
