Lovable lurchers are looking for homes

- LEONA GREENAN

Staff at Dogs Trust Lanarkshire were hoping two lonely lurchers would find their forever love this Valentine’s Day.

Despite stealing the hearts of their canine carers, Tigger and Jax have still to meet their love match, so the team in Uddingston are determined to play Cupid by shining a spotlight on the eligible bachelors.

Lurchers were the third most popular breed rehomed by Dogs Trust last year, with 527 finding loving new homes.

Handsome Tigger and Jax are two of over 120 lurchers in the charity’s care currently waiting to meet their special someone.

Tigger is similar in character to his namesake in Winnie the Pooh – boisterous, exuberant and one of a kind. The four-yearold is a fun, friendly and energetic boy.

He has come on leaps and bounds with his training since being cared for at Dogs Trust and is always eager to learn.

He is longing for ‘the one’ – someone who is patient and kind, able to allow him the time to settle into a new home and who will help him continue to learn. His heart is open and ready for love.

Jax, aged nine, is a smart boy who loves to learn new tricks and will proudly show off his super skills when he masters something new.

He enjoys agility and exploring. Jax can find life a little overwhelming so is looking for patient and committed owners who he can meet a number of times to build a strong bond before he leaves Dogs Trust.

Once the bond is made, Jax will be your besotted best friend.

Both Tigger and Jax require love nests where they are the ‘one and only’ pet. Both could live with children aged 16 and over.

Sandra Downie, manager at the rehoming centre, said: “All dogs want to love and be loved, and our fantastic rescue dogs are no different.

“Every dog owner knows how much companionship, loyalty and love you receive from a dog when you welcome them into your heart and home.

“We have been caring for Tigger and Jax for some time, so we know their individual personalities well and they are two great boys.

“They have watched other dogs arrive and leave for their new homes, it is well and truly their time for this happy ending.

“For anyone not able to commit to rehoming a dog right now, we would encourage them to consider fostering. We are always looking for loving foster carers who can care for one of our rescue dogs on a temporary basis in their home until we find them their perfect love match.”
