Debut single is leaving a Legacy
A Hamilton songwriter, once caught up in a copyright dispute with The Weeknd, is now releasing his debut solo single.
Brian Clover will release his new track Legacy on February 24 as he looks ahead to a brighter future in music.
One half of local band Chains of Gold with Billy Smith, the musician produces his material at a home studio in the town.
Brian told the Advertiser: “That studio where we somehow continue to create magic, no time restrictions, no rules and no boundaries.”
He continued: “I hang onto image change as much as the musical direction. The Beatles continued to change not only sound but image and cannot not be defined by one genre or style.
“My debut single is just a very small part of who and what I am. I wanted to start out with something, dare I say, vintage, classic and memorable.”
Prior to release, Brian has already been lauded with praise for his upcoming single, with critics commenting on how he takes personal and musical themes and presents them in a way that feels like it’s never been done before.
He’s been commended for his strong and emotional vocals and his fresh take on his genre, which includes a hint of nostalgia.
Brian’s wide influences include Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, Beyonce, Britney, Freddie Mercury, The Streets, Bryan Ferry and Jazzie B among others.
He has also been described as “an experimental pop visionary who refuses to play by the rules” as he draws on Madonna and Depeche Mode as huge inspirations.
Brian took the copyright court defeat badly, and admits he had suicidal thoughts. He is now vocal about his own recovery and is urging people to “talk to someone”.
The feud took its toll on the band but eventually paved the way for more opportunities to continue writing songs and release new music.
Having escaped dark times which took him to a particularly difficult period of his life, Brian is full of enthusiasm for the joys of recovery.
He added: “I am focused and motivated after being in recovery for some time now. My intention is to put my heart, soul and love into trying to gain some real traction.”
Brian’s new single Legacy will be available on all streaming platforms from Friday, February 24.
