Michelin star chef in town

Guests enjoyed top lunch

- LEONA GREENAN

Scotland’s only female Michelin star chef cooked for guests at the launch of a new homes development in Hamilton.

Lorna Mcnee, head chef at Cail Bruich in Glasgow, took over the kitchen of one of the newly-opened show homes at Hamilton Heights on Strathaven Road, preparing a series of delicious canapes for customers who have reserved a spot, or who are already living there.

Lorna, who was also the Great British Menu’s Champion of Champions in 2019, put the kitchen through its paces also showcasing four elegant dishes served at the West End restaurant and demonstrating how to present plates of food worthy of a Michelin star.

Robertson Homes is building 91, four-, five- and six-bedroom homes at Hamilton Heights and Lorna officially opened two of their new show homes.

Lorna, who gained the Michelin accolade just five months after joining Cail Bruich from Gleneagles, said: “I live in a Robertson Homes property myself near Gleneagles, it is the first house I bought and I have been there seven years and absolutely love it.

“So, to be invited to come and cook in the company’s latest show home was an opportunity I jumped at.”

Lorna, and sous chef Lewis Mcdonald, were cooking in the kitchen of a Mitchell Garden Room, a five-bedroom, family home with huge open-plan kitchen/dining/family room. She said: “The kitchen is actually bigger than ours at the restaurant! It has lots of storage and work surfaces and the breakfast bar is perfect for food preparation and really sociable.

“It has all been really well thought through and it has been a pleasure to cook here, as I knew it would be. My own kitchen at home may be smaller but it is just as well planned and very much the heart of our home.”

As well as delicious food, guests were able to wander through the rest of the property and the show home next door where they could enjoy a cocktail bar, music by local musician Guy Hamilton and even have a caricature made by in-demand caricaturist Edd Travers. Younger visitors were entertained with magic and balloon modelling.

Julie Henderson, sales manager at Robertson Homes, said: “We wanted to hold a very special event for our valued customers and to showcase both properties which are wonderful, sociable homes.

“It was lovely for customers who will soon be neighbours to meet each other and enjoy some absolutely delicious food.

“Buying a Robertson Home is buying a lifestyle and the homes at Hamilton Heights are attracting a wide range of residents from downsizers to young families to first time buyers who want their forever home right from the start.”

Prices of homes at Hamilton Heights currently start from ££392,000 for a fourbedroom detached home with separate garage.
