Top tips to deter cyber crooks
We at Police Scotland hope that 2023 has been favourable to you all and wish you all well as we head towards spring time.
This week we are looking at some top tips for cyber security and keeping safe online.
1. Choose strong passwords and change them regularly.
2. Make sure your wireless network is secure at all times.
3. Keep your operating system, browser, anti-virus and security software up to date.
4. Install anti-virus on all your devices. 5. Not all websites are legitimate and some are fake – if in doubt don’t use it.
6. Never reveal passwords or PIN when asked to do so by email or on the phone.
7. Don’t reveal or share personal information on social networking/ dating sites.
8. Set privacy settings to the highest level.
9. When shopping or banking online make sure the website is secure – look for the green padlock and HTTPS in the browser bar.
10. Remember that deleting data doesn’t guarantee permanent removal.

Meanwhile, officers attended a number of business premises in Hamilton after receiving reports of thefts from storage areas. Information was passed with regards to the descriptions of those responsible along with the vehicles being used. Using intelligenceled policing two males were arrested. Both were held custody to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
