MSP praises animal charity

-

Meghan Gallacher MSP got to witness first-hand the “amazing” work of the Scottish SPCA following a recent visit to their Hamilton centre.

The Conservative representative for Central Scotland, right, was at the Bothwell Road base to meet the team who dedicate their time to helping and nurturing animals.

The charity work tirelessly to support and care for all sorts of animals who have been abandoned or handed into the centre.

In 2018, the charity launched a programme called ‘animal Guardians’, which works with young people who have shown behaviour towards animals that has caused concern.

Around 300 referrals to the programme have been received in relation to people aged three to 16.

The Scottish SPCA have also developed their Animal Fostering Programme which allows animals to receive care and attention in a happy, stable and safe home environment.

There is currently a need for dog and cat volunteers in the Lanarkshire area. For more information go to the charity’s website. Ms Gallacher said: “I was delighted to visit the Scottish SPCA Hamilton centre and the team that runs this wonderful charity with such determination and passion to deliver the best care for animals.

“Regardless of the circumstances, all animals deserve to find their forever home and, after visiting the centre, I have no hesitation in thinking this team and charity will work around the clock to make that happen.

“Everyone at the Scottish SPCA should be very proud of the environment and care they give the animals and what they are doing to raise awareness and their fostering programme.

“I will continue to support this charity both locally and nationally and the positive influence they have on animals.”
