Free college courses on offer
New College Lanarkshire (NCL) has announced plans to give back to the community byoffering 100 free courses over the nexttwomonths as part of its tenthanniversary.
More than 85,000 students have become alumni by studying at NCL, with nearly 57,500 qualifications achieved over a decade.
This includes seeing dentists, musicians, care workers, mechanics, andmany more entering the working world from their courses.
Sandra Mcloughlan, dean for student recruitmentandexperience at Ncl,reflected on the anniversary and what it means for the school.
She said:“we’reincredibly proudof the impact the collegehas had on the local community, which is why we want to give back with free courseofferings.
“Ourhopeis that this will notonly help students build applicable skills for roles that are emerging within the job market but will also provide options to build outa specificinterestin an engaging subject.”
The free courses offera wide rangeof subjects for all academic interests. For fans of true crime and dramatic, suspenseful thrillers, NCL offers An Introduction to Criminology.
Learn more about the motives, origins,and forensics of all things crime in this course that analyses everything from shoplifting to serial killing.
NCL’S courses also cater for those with a sweet tooth who are looking to pursue a career in confectionery, offering the beginners coursethe Art of Chocolate.
Led byrenowned pastry chef Ann Brown, the course guides you through basics in food theory suchas the different varieties of chocolate, to practical work like tempering, fillings, andmaking yourown moulds.
The collegealsooffers Podcast Creation for students to begin their podcasting journey, which samples everything from pre-production with note-taking and preparing for the pilot, all the way to post-production with editing and release.
Among the other courses on offer throughout March and April are Motorcycle Maintenanceforbeginners, Intro to Electronicmusic Production, Guitar Lessons: Intermediate and Advanced, NQ Clinical Psychologyand Databases in a Business Context.
A college spokesperson added: “These free courses could be the first step toa new career, a chance to gaina useful skill, or just a time to learn something new.
“There’s evening and weekend classes,on campus andonline, so whatever stagein lifeyou’re at there’sa place for you here.”
