Law lap up cross country test

-

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club produced a series of impressive displays and medal-winning runs at the Lanarkshire Cross Country Championships recently.

The club’s younger athletes descended on Bellahouston Park in Glasgow to take part in the popular competition, and they did their club proud on the day.

Law’s under-11 girls kicked things off by winning team bronze in the 1300m event, after Abbie Boyle finished fifth, Alyssa Bennet 12th and Helen Wotherspoon 14th.

In the U11 boys race, Alexander Wotherspoon was on top form to take the individual bronze medal.

U13 Olivia Inglis excelled in the 2100m race, winning individual gold, with Freya Togneri finishing in 15th place.

Another great run saw Blair Beverley finish fourth in the boys 2100m race.

U15 Alaynna Mccann finished 15th in the 3400m race, with John Frood finishing fourth in the boys event, followed by Daniel Simpson in eighth place.

U17 Jessica Inglis continued her good form to win the championship title in the 5500m race, followed by Neve Elliot in fourth place.

U17 boys Logan Whitton and Ryan Kellock had a very close race, finishing 6th and 7th, respectively.

The senior race was over 7600m with Elaine Boyle fourth and Christine Neill 14th. Alan Neill was the first Law runner home in the men’s race, finishing 16th, followed by Ross Hill 23rd, Martin Kay 34th, Finn Milligan 36th, Bobby Hill 37th, Mark Milligan 45th, Grant Kerr 47th, John O’leary 50th and Pat Kelly 54th.

Meanwhile, seniors Emily Mcnicol and Kieran Pugh travelled to Northern Ireland to take part in the world famous Armagh International 3k, where runners compete under street light though the streets, in what is a popular and fast paced race.

Emily ran a personal best of 10.14mins for 75th out of 152 and Kieran ran 9.22mins for 32nd out of 144.

These are impressive results in a race Emily described as “a great experience but totally insane, and wild”.

Finally, Law athletes also took part in the Masters Indoor Championships and National Relay Finals.

V45 Darran Muir won bronze in the 1500m and W55 Fiona Steele had terrific runs in both the 60m and 200m, winning gold and silver, respectively.
