Crowning glory lunch

-

Uddingston children had a right royal time marking the coronation of King Charles III.

Schools across the area held special themed lunches to celebrate the big day.

Among those taking part was Muiredge Primary, and the aim of their themed lunch was to promote a balanced and healthy diet to its hard-working pupils.

The school was decorated with bunting and kids tucked into coronation quiche and a special union flag fruit platter.

Councillor Robert Brown, chair of the council’s community and enterprise resources committee, said: “The children at Muiredge Primary School were superb and were all keen to show me the crowns and decorations they had made.

“The staff had clearly made a huge effort to make this a memorable event for the pupils.

“The coronation theme was the lever but there is another serious message behind it too.

“Encouraging our young people to have a healthy, balanced meal is, of course, the main aim of events like this.”

And the head teacher of Muiredge Primary, Leigh Miller, added:“the pupils were all so excited for the themed lunch and some of the crowns they had made in class were fantastic.

“They have been learning about the coronation and have shown a real interest in the history and sense of occasion it brings.

“We generally have a really good uptake of school lunches and days like today can only help to encourage even more to see the benefits.

“I would like to thank our wonderful kitchen staff who went above and beyond, and also the wider facilities team who came up with the idea of having a theme day for the coronation.”
