Kids give a very warm welcome

- MICHAEL PRINGLE

A primary school in Hamilton was given a £200 donation by a house builder after pupils impressed them with their colourful‘welcome Home’card designs.

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland teamed up with P4 pupils at St Mark’s Primary to create a card for new residents at its Oakwood Grove and Oakwood View developments in the town.

The company challenged the children to create a colourful design and the winning entry, from Aria Thomson, was turned into a card that will be given to homeowners when they move into their new homes.

Aria received a £50 voucher, but the standard of entries was so impressive that judges chose two further runner-up designs – by Madison Reilly and Myah Paterson – who were each given a £25 voucher.

The children were invited to the development to be awarded their prizes and receive framed copies of their impressive designs. In addition, St Mark’s Primary was awarded a £200 donation as a thank you for getting involved.

Mr Brownlie, acting principal teacher at the school, said:“the children enjoyed taking part in this unusual challenge from Taylor Wimpey and they produced a range of very colourful and interesting designs.”

Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “All of the entries were fantastic, and we struggled to pick a winner. In the end, we decided that Aria’s design would act as the perfect colourful greeting.

“We were so impressed with the children’s designs that we chose two more designs to award prizes too, and we understand the children had great fun in taking part in our unique challenge – well done to everyone.”
