Helping support a safe Haven in time of need

Asda donates £8000 to help life-limiting charity

-

An award-winning charity that supports families affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement was delighted to receive a cheque for £800 from a local supermarket branch.

The Haven, which was formed in 2001, were recently presented with the cheque by Mary Sutherland, community colleague, and Andy Claase, general store manager from Asda in Blantyre.

It’s thanks to the Asda Foundation which supports small, grass roots organisations in several ways throughout the year.

The Haven supports individuals, carers, children, young people and families affected by a life-limiting illness and bereavement to manage the emotional impact of illness and caring responsibilities and to live life well.

Haven nurses, co-ordinators and wellbeing practitioners can provide one-to-one support and resources to help people through every stage of illness – from diagnosis; during and after treatment; and at end of life, including bereavement support for families. All services are free and delivered online, by telephone, or inperson by pre-booked appointments.

Paul Hayward, campaigns and communications officer for The Haven said: “To supplement the support services we provide to our clients, they also receive wellbeing toolkits which are tailored to suit individual needs and circumstances to help achieve wellbeing goals and improve emotional and mental health and wellbeing through self-management strategies and skills.”

The Haven’s toolkits may include, for example, wellbeing journals; relaxation CDS; mindfulness and therapeutic breathing technique books; and therapeutic arts materials. These resources may help clients to improve sleep; help them to relax; reduce stress and anxiety; and provide opportunities for a break from their caring role.

Paul added: “We are so grateful to Asda Foundation, to Mary, Andy and the team at Asda Blantyre for their continued support and everything they do for The Haven.

“The funding from Asda Foundation will allow The Haven to continue delivering relaxation wellbeing activities and therapeutic resources to individuals, families and carer.”

The Haven would like to extend thanks and appreciation to Asda Blantyre and its customers who have all contributed to this effort.
