Joy for Law at home and abroad
Law and District Amateur Athletic Club members have continued their strong start to 2024 with athletes impressing in events at home and abroad.
The club once again attended the Allan Scally Memorial Road Race Relay, which is in its 53rd year, at Glasgow Green.
Law had three teams competing in the 4 x 5km event against 220 other teams. The men’s A team of Kieran Pugh, Ryan Kellock, Jordon Morrison and Grant Mackenzie finished in an impressive 48th place.
The men’s B team of Ross Hill, Bobby Hill, Mark Milligan and Finn Milligan finished in 118th place and the women’s team finished 95th overall and sixth women’s team with Jessica Robson, Leah Keisler, Christine Neill and Jessica Inglis.
Emily Mcnicol and team members Clare Stewart, Rachel Giffen and Mia Padmanabhan, who were representing Glasgow University, finished first women’s team and 60th overall.
The Glasgow Uni ladies were surprised and delighted to be awarded their winning trophy by double Olympian David Rudisha, who was attending the World Indoor Athletic Championships as International Embassador, a short distance away at Emirates Arena.
Meanwhile, some of Law’s young athletes then competed at the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships in South Queensferry.
In the U14 girls race Emily Taylor finished 20th, Freya Togneri 102nd and Eilidh Boyle 103rd, in a field of 226.
U15 girls Lucy Taylor 9th and Sarah Chambers 91st of 129, U15 Boys Cameron Chambers 15th and Blair Beverley 48th of 117 and U20 Ryan Kellock 24th of 76.
The standout performance came from Jessica Inglis as she claimed the Championship title in the under-20 race.
Her coach, Pat Kelly, said: “Jessica reached deep into her human resources and after a gruelling contest pulled away to land first place in the Senior Girls race.
“It was a result and a performance her efforts in training deserved and Jessica can now enjoy the fact that she is a Scottish Champion.”
Jessica continued her great form when she was selected to represent West of Scotland at the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships in Nottingham, finishing in a fantastic seventh place, winning team gold and finishing third overall in the British Cross Challenge Series 2023/24.
An amazing and well deserved end to Jessica’s cross country season.
Finally, husband and wife team, Richard and Jennifer Beattie had a fantastic experience in East Africa recently.
They completed the five days of racing in the Tanzania Ultra X Race.
The race covered 220km with an elevation of almost 6000m, so a big well done goes to Rich and Jen on their accomplishment.
