ON THE WATER
Standing tall and just 20 miles from Hampshire Collegiate School, the school’s fleet of Etchell 22s are moored in the Solent at Lymington Harbour. Sailing is a popular co-curricular activity with many of the school’s children enjoying the Keelboat Programme.
While some pupils are already keen or experienced sailors, many have their first taste of coastal keelboat and powerboat watersports within the school curriculum. With time on the water and a continuous programme of training provided by the school’s experienced inhouse instructors, children become competent young sailors with many going on to gain Royal Yachting Association (RYA) certification both in keelboats and powerboat PB2.
Each year, the school’s sailing team competes in the Isle of Wight Round the Island Race. This year, Hampshire Collegiate School was the fastest team of young sailors and positioned 111 in the overall race (out of over 1,200 teams competing), collecting the 2018 Raymarine Young Sailors Trophy. Well done!
