A charity set up to manage the Gratton, a valuable shared green recreational space in the heart of Sutton Scotney, has just been recognised with The Queens Award for Voluntary Service. Originally set up in 1997, The Gratton Trust Charity, through the hard work of its many volunteers and the generosity of the community, has seen through improvements of the facilities which now feature tennis courts, football pitches, an outdoor gym, pavilion, riverside walk, picnic tables and a play area complete with zip wire! This latest award serves to congratulate the volunteers and organisers who have developed this open space in the Parish of Wonston for the benefit of all members of the community.
The award was presented by EastEnders star and National Lottery Awards ambassador Nitin Ganatra, and included a coveted trophy and cash prize. The prize will fund a legacy project for Polli:Nation, allowing schools across the country to manage their grounds in the long-term for the benefit of pollinating insects. pollination.co.uk
