Hampshire Life - - Real Home -

Your favourite room: “The kitchen! I love the yellow walls. Also, I love how accessible the kitchen is with its back door and windows out to the garden, so I can watch the children play while I potter. It’s the easiest hang out room.”

Your best buy: “My rugs from Ikea! We have a few of their colourful kilim ones, but also their usual jute sisal versions, too. They make the cottage cosy and warm, but also last forever, even with many a muddy foot on them.”

One thing in the house you couldn’t live without: “The piano - to keep Peter busy playing wonderful music almost constantly.”

Your favourite home store: Jubbly’s in Lymington: an old-fashioned bric-a-brac shop which I love to visit on Saturday mornings. It has some real treasures selling for nothing. Sometimes, out of context in a crowded shop, these pieces are amazing; others just need a lick of paint.”

A tip for anyone else doing a similar project: “Try to mirror the surroundings and your lifestyle so that the interiors look right and are practical.”
