WINDSOR CELEBRATES THE JUBILEE
In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a special exhibition is to be staged at Windsor Castle from 7 July until 26 September. The display, commemorating Her Majesty’s Coronation on 2 June 1953, will include the coronation dress and Robe of Estate worn by the Queen that day. Designed by the British couturier Sir Norman Hartnell, the dress was created in the finest white duchesse satin, richly embroidered in a lattice-work effect threaded with Commonwealth emblems in gold and silver, and encrusted with seed pearls, sequins and crystals.
The Robe of Estate, meanwhile, was made by the royal robe-makers Ede and Ravenscroft of purple silk velvet, and embroidered at the Royal School of Needlework. www.rct.uk
