Society puts on a blooming great show
Men’s cookery challenge was hotly contested
CROWDS enjoyed a ‘dazzling’ display of flowers and vegetables at the Ickenham and Swakeleys Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show.
The judging took place in the Village Hall on Saturday (September 5) where all the awards and prizes were presented by enthusiastic gardener, the Vicar of St Giles, The Reverend Felicity Davies.
Patt Trigg, show committee member thought the event was a great success.
She said: “The many people who visited the show in the village hall on a fine autumn afternoon were greeted by a dazzling display of colour from the plants and flowers, as well as a superb display of vegetables. There was also great interest in the various junior exhibits, as well as adult entries in photography, cookery and wine classes – a total of over 250 entries. As ever the keenest competition was in the men’s challenge cookery class.”
Double prizes were given to Margaret Mayes for the floral and fruit sections, whereas Chris Lane was a hit in the wine and men’s challenge.
Tea and home-made cakes were popular and the hall was crowded with visitors all afternoon.
