DEAN Stevens and Sebastian Barker each claimed a hattrick of tries as Ickenham RFC blew away any cobwebs with a 73-0 win at CSSC Barbarians on Saturday.

The Middlesex Merit Table Division Six leaders ran in 14 tries without reply to maintain a six-point lead over Twickenham 4s at the top of the table.

It was soon clear which way things were going, with a try in the opening five minutes, and with lots of breaks and excellent support play, the score soon started racking up in favour of the visitors as Ickenham stamped their authority on the game.

The hosts tried to rally after the break but to no avail as the Ickenham defence held firm and it wasn’t long before the visitors got back into the game, with more tries made from breakaways and stealing of the ball.

Although the match was called off with five minutes to go due to a Barbarians player incurring a head injury which necesitated an ambulance being called, the result was allowed to stand.

Luke Birchall was named man of the match for his brace of tries and the superb lines he ran alongside brilliant support running. Nick Creak also nailed a brace of tries, while Sam Pooley, Chris Creak, Rob McClay and Irin Tiwana all crossed the try line too, with Tiwana kicking two conversions and Stevens one.

Ickenham host Chiswick 4s on Saturday.
