Tribute to a true Samaritan

IT was so touching to read your tribute to Dave Skelton in a cutting from the Gazette sent by a friend.

We now live in Cornwall, having both been born and lived in Hillingdon for 70 years. My in-laws lived opposite Dave and Barbara for many years in Grosvenor Crescent, Hillingdon and they were always good neighbours way back then.

When my father-in-law was failing, David was always on hand, calling in for a chat and a cuppa. Once late in the evening when Dad’s alarm went off, we raced round to find him on the floor, David came and helped return him to bed.

We also met with them both at All Saints’, North Hillingdon, where again he was always a willing helper.

So wonderful that a true samaritan has been recognised for the quiet way in which he enriched the lives of those with whom he came into contact. Thank you again for highlighting the ordinary man who had such an impact on those around him. Ann & Peter Bennett Via email
