Injured by own firearm
POLICEMAN SHOOTS HIMSELF IN THE FOOT WHILE ATTENDING A CALL OUT
A FIREARMS officer has been injured after shooting himself in the foot while attending a call out in west London.
The policeman was attending an address in Old Oak Common, on the border of Acton and Shepherd’s Bush, when the incident occurred .
Scotland Yard says he has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Firearms officers were called to an address in Old Oak Common at 4.20am on Thursday September 21 amid concerns for an occupant living there.
The Met said in a statement: “On leaving the address, a police firearm was discharged by one of the officers causing an injury to his foot.”
One person had earlier told getwestlondon that a police officer had been seen “lying on the street screaming”.
Shepherd’s Bush road closure amid reports of ‘massive amount of police’
Local music artist Kojo Rigault was passing the scene at 7.15am when he saw police had blocked off the road.
He told getwestlondon : “I spoke to a couple of officer and they said to me the incident did not affect residents. I tried to find out if it was bomb related but they said it was nothing like that.”
He said Du Cane Road was still closed amid a heavy police presence, he said.
As a result of the incident, police closed Old Oak Common Lane at the junction of Du Cane Road, with Transport for London (TfL) warning people of disruption to roads and buses.
The injured officer was taken to a central London hospital.
No other shots were fired and no one else was injured.
The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.
