Mice in need of nice home

-

HERE at the branch we currently have 11 new arrivals – a family of lovely mice.

Originally from a group of more than 80 rescued by a neighbouring branch, these mice have been cared for at the RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital before coming into our care for rehoming.

This little family will soon be looking for new homes. Mice need their own kind as company and love to groom and play with each other, so we will be looking to rehome them in pairs or small groups with loving families.

Owning and caring for mice can be very rewarding.

Typically, mice can live for about three years. Although this may appear a short time in comparison to other pet animals, owning mice is still a big responsibility and commitment. If you would be interested in giving a new home to some of our mice, we would love to hear from you.

Prior to adoption we will need to see the cage or tank you will be using and in some cases suggest minor changes that help ensure your accommodation is as mouse friendly as possible. We will also call a few weeks after you have adopted to make sure you and your new pet are adjusting well to your new life together.

Mice are not designed to live in a confined space as such; we require a cage size of no less than 55cm wide, which should give enough space to provide suitable enrichment such as cardboard tubes, tunnels, hammocks and gnawing blocks while still allowing generous space for the mice. Please bear in mind that these recommendations are all minimums and like many things in life, bigger is better. Can you meet your mice’s needs? Can you provide your mice with a suitable and enriched accommodation of no less than 55cm wide? Mice like to climb, which wire cages allow, but they can squeeze through tiny gaps so spaces between the bars should not be larger than the width of your little finger.

Do you have the time to spend interacting with you mice every day? As well as to clean their home as often as needed.

If you think you could offer a forever home to these mice or any of our small animals, cats and rabbits we currently have looking for a home for life then please call us on 020 8966 9688, or email us at info@rspcamiddlesex.org.uk.
