GOOGLE’S NEW PHONE

GOOGLE wasn’t going to let Apple have all the smartphone fun in the run up to Christmas, now, was it?

And so, it has invited media representatives to an event in San Francisco on October 4.

What will it reveal? Odds are it’s the second version of its ownbrand Pixel smartphone – or Pixel 2 to you and me.

We don’t know this for sure, in fact we know less about the Pixel 2 and this event than we did about Apple’s spectacular iPhone X launch last week.

But Google is ramping up a teaser ad campaign to try to stir up some interest in the October 4 event.

The teaser video released shows a Google search box, which is filled in with various questions… like: “What’s wrong with my phone’s battery?”, and “Why does my phone take so many blurry photos?“. The best question is: “Why is my smartphone so slow/hot/ fragile/annoying/broken/cruel/ impersonal/dumb?”

It isn’t, obviously, but Google is suggesting that not only are these real questions Google has been asked, but also that whatever is coming our way on October 4 will answer them.

October 4, incidentally, is the date the first Pixel phone was announced last year.

I don’t think I’ll win any prizes for predicting the Pixel 2 will be with us this year, but what it will be like is anyone’s guess.

We only have to wait until next month to find out.
