22-YEAR-OLD DENIES MURDER OF TASHAN DANIEL BUT ADMITS TO MANSLAUGHTER
A YOUNG Uxbridge man has admitted killing an aspiring athlete at Hillingdon Tube station.
Tashan Daniel, 20, was attacked at the London Underground station while on his way to watch Arsenal on September 24 2019.
At a hearing at the Old Bailey on Thursday January 23, Alex Lanning, 22, of Cowdray Road, Uxbridge, denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter and having a knife.
His co-defendant Jonathan Camille, 19, of Fulham Road, Kensington, pleaded not guilty to murder and manslaughter.
The pair, who appeared in the dock before Judge Mark Lucraft QC, were remanded in custody ahead of their trial on April 1 – Lanning charged with murder and Camille with murder and manslaughter.
It was previously reported that Mr Daniel was stabbed to death at Hillingdon station at 4pm on September 24. He was with a friend and was heading to the Emirates Stadium to watch his beloved Arsenal play Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
After the knife attack, Mr Daniel was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries.
Since the aspiring photographer’s death, many heartbreaking tributes have been paid to the well-liked young man.
Reverend Reg Craig, the minister at Hillingdon Park Baptist Church, led a vigil held outside Hillingdon station in the days after his death.
Mr Daniel’s family and friends shared incredible stories and memories of the young man, who was said to have a “bright future”.
Among those to speak was Tashan’s dad, Chandima Daniel.
“We are still in a state of shock about what happened,” he told the hundreds who attended. “It’s a rollercoaster of emotions hearing wonderful things about my son.
“I knew he was a great, great person, but on a daily basis I am hearing amazing things about him that make me so proud.”
